128 players aim to qualify for the English Open, which is seeded according to past winners. Then, 16 players will take part in the final event, after which the winner will be presented with the Trophy.

💞 From the first round through the next four rounds up until the quarter-finals, players play to a best-of-seven frames format. The quarter-finals are then played to a best-of-nine, the semi-finals best-of-eleven and the final to a best-of-17. The tournament’s total prize fund is around £405,000, with £70,000 set aside for the victor.

The English Open is established in the snooker calendar and takes place each year. Usually, the tournament is held in Milton Keynes at the Marshall Arena and lasts for a week, during which players earn world ranking points based on their performance. It is the fourth ranking event of 17 during the season, and the second of the Home Nations Series, which also includes the Northern Ireland Open, the Scottish Open, and the Welsh Open. There is a special bonus of £1 million🎃 for the player who wins all four tournaments in the same season, which so far no one has achieved.

The 2022 English Open snooker tournament will take place between the 12th and the 18th of December, 🍎and will be hosted at the Brentwood Centre in Essex for the first time. The event has a total prize fund of £427,000 this year, with the winner picking up £80,000, which is £10,000 more than the first prize in 2021. Neil Roberson is the defending champion, but can he win the ranking tournament again this year? See what we think in our predictions below in this section.

English Open Winner Betting Odds 2022

♋ When we put together this betting preview, no bookmaker had issued odds yet. However, we can expect similar betting odds at the head of the market as in 2021. A year ago, the four shortest-priced players were Judd Trump (4/1), Neil Robertson (11/2), Ronnie O’Sullivan (6/1) and Mark Selby 6/1.

♈ The World Championship in 2023 is also a good guide to what the odds for the 2022 English Open will be like. The only slight variances are that O’Sullivan is the second-favourite behind Trump, while Selby has been price higher but still holding the fourth-best position.

꧃ If all four play at Brentwood in the English Open, the combined price should be about 4/7, so 11/8 ‘The Field’. It will be a brave man to oppose the four best players in the sport.

English Open Betting Tips & Predictions 2021

  • List Icon

The 2022 English Open at the Brentwood Centre in Essex marks the seventh renewal of the tournament. There have been six different winners, with Judd Trump and Neil Robertson🔜 the only players to have been the runners-up and won. Robertson beat John Higgins 9-8 in the final in 2021, having lost to Trump by the same score a year earlier.

Ronnie Sullivanꦦ has a history of winning ranking tournaments multiple times, beating Kyren Wilson 9-2 in 2017 for his only English Open. The current and seven-time world champion is still producing tournament-winning snooker at the age of 46. The so-called Rocket will his status as the world number one (as of August 22) if he wins the English Open for the second time.

Unfortunately, Shaun Murphy has had health problems and is currently living with his family in Dublin. The 2005 World Champion lost in the world final to Mark Selby in 2021. Although he had reached a career-high of number 3 in the standings, he is now at number 11. Depending on the draw, though, Murphy could be a viable each-way English Open alternative to the main prediction, O’Sullivan.

Match Win Bet

🌳 This, like the bet above, is as simple as betting gets. In the case of the above, you are betting on the winner of the tournament, but for this particular market, you are betting on the snooker player that you think will win the match. Moreover, in snooker, players cannot draw.

Frames, if you don’t know, are the mini-sets that make up a match. Players will play to the best of a designated number of frames, and in each frame, players must clear a full snooker table of all its balls until an unbeatable points score has been obtained.

Snooker Frame Handicap Betting

🔯 Handicap markets are useful when one player is considered to hold much higher skill, and as such is a clear favourite. To trim the skill factor and level the playing field, bookmakers offer a handicap of frames designed to counter the likely or possible frame margin that the favourite might very well win by.
