The Indiana Pacers (2-3) travel to Kaseya Center on Friday, Oct. 30 for an NBA Cup group-play matchup against the Miami Heat (1-4), a pairing of one of the East's better offenses on paper against a team still adjusting around a new superstar. The Pacers vs Heat prediction breaks down both teams' form, the health reports to monitor and where the analytical advantage lies before tip-off (8:00 PM ET).
Indiana has scored 121.3 points per 100 possessions (5th in the NBA) and allowed 116.7 (19th) across its first three games, with victories at New Orleans (123-120) and at Brooklyn (136-109) sandwiched around a home loss to Dallas (105-121); the Pacers then dropped a 114-109 decision to Philadelphia on Oct. 28. The Pacers are a fast team and a team that thrives on ball movement and that is what they've got along the way with Tyrese Haliburton looking absolutely fit from the Achilles injury that ended his 2025 Finals run, he's been in the game and is averaging 21.7 points and 9.7 assists for the Pacers.
The story is more complex in Miami. The Heat opened 0-4 with an average of 109.0 points scored and 124.7 points allowed against Minnesota (106-131), Detroit (111-128) and Charlotte on the road (110-115), before picking up their first win, 129-117 over Atlanta, on Oct. 28. While the blockbuster Giannis Antetokounmpo deal that brought the Heater to Miami in June is the premier offseason acquisition, early signs point to the fact that the Heat still are finding their rhythm and harmony in their new home, with Bam Adebayo's playing time and touches significantly diminished.
Both teams come off of a similar night's rest, with Indiana playing host to Philadelphia on Wednesday, Oct. 28, and the Heat touring to Atlanta on the same night. Both teams are not back to back, therefore fatigue should not be a factor.

The 136-109 victory over Brooklyn on Sunday was the most complete game of the young season for Indiana and a testament to the nature of the offense when Haliburton is on fire and Siakam is on the floor. Miami's front office went all-in on Giannis, rounding him out with a revamped supporting cast, including Klay Thompson, Bobby Portis, Davion Mitchell and Andrew Wiggins, but defensively, it hasn't worked out in three games — that would rank as a bottom-five performance over a season. This game is also a group stage of the NBA cup, so both teams will have additional motivation aside from regular season ratings.
The Pacers' offensive production and Haliburton's clean bill of health give them a huge analytical advantage as well, particularly against a Heat defense that has been weak against all types of offenses thus far. However, it's just three games for both sides, and Miami's roster is fairly solid with Giannis as the top scorer in the top five, so it's not a foregone conclusion that it will be an easy night. The Over is a value play and leans on the moneyline and to cover a small road spread, although Miami's defense is questionable, this is not a lock and should be played as such and not a sure thing.
The Pacers have a higher operating tempo, better economy and a healthy Haliburton to add to a Miami building that is yet to become a stable defensive lineup around its new superstar. A decent place to lean Indiana but early season batting averages are still quite volatile with both teams and this one should be viewed as a value play instead of a sure bet.

The Pacers will have the edge in the better record and efficiency because of that, but watch the market line closer to tip-off as early-season lines can change.
Based on reporting as of this writing, Haliburton has started and played all three Pacers games this season with a full workload. However, readers should still check his "day-of injury report" before betting on him.
Giannis has averaged 28.3 points per game for Miami since being acquired from Milwaukee in June of 2016, but the Heat still haven't figured out their rotation and roles around him.
As of this writing, neither team's injury report includes any players with an official injury designation, but that could all change on the day of a game — check the official NBA injury report.
The game has more than typical regular-season stakes, as part of NBA Cup group play.
